Bridge cranes are typically composed of three main parts: mechanical, electrical, and metal structures. The crane's appearance resembles a single-span flat bridge that moves transversely on two parallel overhead tracks. It can be broadly divided into the lifting mechanism, the trolley travel mechanism, and the crane travel mechanism.
The lifting mechanism is used to vertically lift objects; the trolley travel mechanism moves the load laterally; while the crane travel mechanism moves the lifting trolley and the load longitudinally, allowing for the transfer and loading/unloading of goods in three-dimensional space.
The metal structure part of the bridge crane mentioned earlier refers to the bridge frame and the trolley frame; the electrical part includes electrical equipment and circuits. With proper equipment, bridge cranes can not only be used for outdoor warehouses, material yards, railway freight stations, and port terminals but can also be equipped with various special hooks for a variety of special operations.
There are also specific rules for the selection of bridge cranes. Generally, for lifting capacities below 50 tons and spans within 35 meters without special operational requirements, single girder bridge cranes are recommended. However, if there is a need for a wide span, high operation speed, or frequent handling of heavy or long loads, double girder gantry cranes are required.
During the operation of bridge cranes, slipping may sometimes occur. To eliminate this adverse phenomenon, it is necessary first to analyze the causes of slipping and adopt corresponding measures based on different reasons. For example, choose the right motor to match the bridge crane, which should not be too large; ensure that the crane's load capacity and wheel pressure bearing capacity are calculated correctly to ensure sufficient pressure of the wheels on the rail surface. In addition to this, it is important to control the start and braking times of the equipment properly.
Understanding the components and capabilities of bridge cranes is essential for ensuring efficient and safe operations. By following industry guidelines for selection and maintaining vigilance in operation, bridge cranes can significantly enhance productivity and safety in material handling processes.
